(TÜV Rheinland: Newtown, CT) -- TÜV Rheinland Industrial Solutions (TRIS) will hold a free webinar to discuss the benefits of nondestructive inspections using the phased array ultrasonic testing (PAUT) method, an advanced method of ultrasonic testing that can reveal defects in material that cannot be easily resolved with conventional ultrasonic testing. the webinar will also discuss various industry applications. Scheduled for Wed., Aug. 22, 2012, at 2 p.m. EDT, the webinar will specifically highlight the PAUT advantages for testing of bridge pins, inspection of butt welds, t-joint inspections of bridges, and inspection of t-joints.

An advanced testing method, PAUT employs an ultrasonic technique to determine component quality and detect failures. Some of the benefits include the following:
• Simplified inspection of components with complex geometry
• Inspection of many different materials
• Inspections of high-temperature environments
• Speedy inspection as compared to conventional ultrasonic testing
• High probability of problem detection due to testing from multiple angles with a single probe
• Data presentation in an understandable graphic format
