(Assent Compliance: New York) -- In a global economy it is imperative that companies comply with regional, national, and global environmental regulations to avoid enforcement penalties, ensure continued patronage from customers, and uphold brand appeal.

Complying with regulations such as “Registration, Evaluation and Authorization of Chemicals” (REACH) in the European Union, as well as the electronics directive “Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances” (ROHS) can be expensive and time-consuming without a proper system in place. Failing to comply with them can prove even more costly, to both a company’s budget and reputation. A recent example of a large-scale enforcement project saw more than 60 retailers (including Tesco and Toys“R”Us) and brands such as Philips, Sony, and Disney targeted. The European Economic Union consortium requested information and tested many products from the various retailers for harmful chemicals. The information was then published. Less than 25 percent of the retailers responded adequately and could face enforcement in addition to brand damage for having harmful chemicals or not responding to information requests.

Following are the top five reasons why companies need environmental compliance software:

1. If you are targeted by any enforcement body, you will be able to respond quickly and effectively.
2. You largely mitigate the risk of having harmful chemicals in your products
3. Internal compliance departments will save exponential amounts of touch time with the supply chain
4. The need for expensive testing is reduced and in some cases eliminated
5. Your will never lose business due to failing to comply with environmental regulations
