Reliance Industries Ltd. received the Silver Award for the Six Sigma project it performed at the American Society for Quality’s Team Excellence Competition on May 18. The competition was held at ASQ’s World Conference on Quality & Improvement. Reliance Industries’ Color Control Team tackled the chronic problem of high b-color in polyester fiber, by using Six Sigma to analyze and measure the processes that lead to the over saturation. Reliance Industries is India’s largest private-sector company as measured by all major financial parameters.
“Reliance championed quality as the way to achieve business excellence in a particular high-profile project or process in their organization,” says Laurel Nelson-Rowe, ASQ managing director. “These quality tools have improved Reliance’s results. By establishing quality tools and systematic processes within the organization, all teams participating in this year’s competition have achieved positive, long-term results for years to come.”
“We were inspired to achieve the first time any team from India stormed into the finals because of the commitment from top management to performance excellence,” says team leader Romit Agrawal.
