(Tufco Technologies: Green Bay, Wisconsin) -- Tufco Technologies Inc., a provider of contract manufacturing and business imaging services, recently announced that as of July 20, its employees had worked 2 million consecutive hours without a lost-time injury at its Green Bay facility.

“We have worked hard to institutionalize a culture of safety consciousness that is pervasive at our company and is premised off our beliefs that we are responsible for the physical well-being of our associates at work. We make it clear to all of our employees, starting at orientation and continuing throughout their employment at Tufco, that our absolute priority is safety excellence,” comments Lou LeCalsey, Tufco’s president and CEO.

Tufco has about 500 employees at its Green Bay site, including about 120 temporary employees. Of the total workforce, about 45 percent speak English only as a second language, which causes serious communication issues. Some experienced employees serve as line safety leads, who do whatever’s necessary—including using a lot of show-and-tell to get around the language barriers—to help train other regular and temporary employees. Tufco also uses weekly safety quizzes to help keep safety on every worker’s mind.
