(ISO: Geneva) -- An open competition has been launched to design the poster for World Standards Day based on the theme “Less Waste, Better Results—Standards Increase Efficiency.” Poster submissions will be accepted through May 9, 2012. World Standards Day, held annually on October 14, celebrates the thousands of experts worldwide whose collaborative efforts develop the voluntary technical agreements that are published as international standards.

The designer(s) of the best poster will win 1,500 Swiss francs ($1,647), with the three runners-up receiving 500 Swiss francs ($549 USD) each.
To compete, send entries in .JPG or .PNG format to wsdposter@worldstandardscooperation.org.
The poster competition is organized by the World Standards Cooperation (WSC), which is comprised of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). The WSC was set up in 2001 to strengthen and advance the voluntary consensus-based international standards systems of IEC, ISO, and ITU.
Representatives from the IEC, ISO, and ITU will choose the finalists. The shortlisted entries will be published on the WSC website, and the general public is invited to choose the winning designs. Voting will open on May 14 and close on May 18, and the winners will be announced shortly after. People can follow the World Standards Day poster competition on Twitter and Facebook.
