New Books Explore Baldrige Criteria, Management

Productivity Press recently released two new books that focus on the use of the Baldrige Criteria in organizational improvement efforts and on strategies for maintenance management, respectively.Baldrige Award Winning Quality—15th Edition—How to Interpret the Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence, by Mark Graham Brown, is the newest version of the Baldrige criteria reference manual. It’s a comprehensive resource for understanding the exhaustive criteria of the Baldrige Award for Performance Excellence, and it addresses all seven of the Baldrige criteria categories: leadership; strategic planning; customer and market focus; measurement, analysis and knowledge management; human resource focus; process management; and results.

A significant change to the 2006 version of the book includes new information that is applicable to nonprofit organizations. Other highlights include discussions about the role of leadership and senior management in the award process, the importance of a long- and short-term strategic plan, the core values and themes that the Baldrige Award is based on and common application mistakes.
