Navy to Launch ASQ Lean Six Sigma Certification Process

The Department of the Navy has teamed with the American Society for Quality on a new lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification process.The agreement will allow the Navy and ASQ to develop a testing-standards program geared toward the unique needs of the Navy and Marine Corps. The program will be administered by ASQ, which recently conducted a pilot certification testing program with 50 participants at eight sites around the United States. ASQ will conduct another certification exam in late September for an expected 100 participants.

The Navy has an extensive lean, Six Sigma and theory of constraints program, which affects almost all aspects of the organization. The Navy and Marine Corps Acquisition Enterprise designs, develops, builds and supports the U.S. fleet of ships, aircraft and combat systems and recognized the importance of a formal certification program. Several Navy commands were involved with the development of the process.
