Body

(Intertek: London) -- Intertek, a testing, inspection, and certification company, has launched the Certified Fire Door Inspector Program, through which potential inspectors will be trained to perform inspections of fire-rated door assemblies to the 2007 edition of NFPA 80: Standard for Fire Doors and Other Opening Protectives. Upon certification, inspectors will conduct annual inspections of assemblies in the field to ensure ongoing compliance and safety.

The 2007 edition of NFPA 80 now requires annual inspections by subject experts of all fire-rated door assemblies, including swinging doors with builders’ hardware. Intertek will certify inspectors who have successfully completed the Door and Hardware Institute’s (DHI) Fire Door Assembly Inspection Class, completed applicable DHI prerequisite classes, and passed Intertek’s written exam.

Once a certified inspector has determined that an assembly is compliant with NFPA 80 they may apply an Intertek label specific to the program. The label indicates that the inspection was conducted by a certified fire-door inspector, as well as the year of the inspection. Through the presence of a label backed by an industry-recognized brand, authorities having jurisdiction can be assured that inspections have been properly and accurately performed.
