Dielectric Communications recently implemented lean manufacturing, which now helps the company to maintain stringent quality levels, reduce waste before and during production, and ensure that customers receive products faster with minimal lead times.

Dielectric is the largest manufacturer of broadcast antenna systems for radio, television and mobile media in the United States, as well as the world’s biggest manufacturer of aviation obstruction lighting.

“We’ve tailored the core principles of lean to ensure that our customers continue to benefit from custom-built broadcast solutions while also realizing the benefits of a streamlined production workflow,” said David Wilson, Dielectric president.

Dielectric trained 120 employees at internally sponsored training events, the University of Kentucky and the University of Tennessee.

Lean principles implemented by Dielectric include working with suppliers to prevent errors and reduce waste in the supply chain; working with customers to better understand value from their points of view; and value-stream mapping, redesigning and streamlining internal processes to reduce nonvalue-added activities and improve lead times.
