A need to get back to the basics.

What a great statement:  "Or do we want them to learn simple techniques that virtually everyone
can use to analyze data and come up with appropriate and meaningful
results?"

In my experience a large percentage of quality managers don't even know how to properly conduct a brainstorming session.  What chance have they with complex and mis-applied tools such as ANOVA and complex and useless practices such as data transformations ?

Dr. Wheeler's classes

Over the years, I have had the pleasure of attending Dr. Wheeler's classes on SPC and advanced SPC, as well as experimentation - some of them more than once.  He has a plethora of books written on the subject and I still reference these materials today.  The most solid training in SPC that you can find anywhere.
