Scorpion Vision is an independent and open software tool for industrial vision. PC-based, rapid-application development tools like Scorpion for 2-D and 3-D machine vision produce better and more reliable applications. Scorpion Vision gives users the choice of a small-form embedded PC, a Sony SmartCam, or the power of a multicore PC. The system is founded on top of a standard Windows XP/Vista/7 PC platform.

Flexible robot systems require extremely robust guidance of picking position and product identification to be cost-effective, and the benefits of 3-D robot vision are obvious:
• Works in physical coordinates that are easy to verify against CAD drawings
• Object location does not degrade when the object position changes
• It is easier to detect when something is wrong, which is not always possible in 2-D machine vision systems
• 3-D robot vision systems are more accurate
