(The Modal Shop Inc.: Cincinnati) -- The Modal Shop Inc. introduced a new system in its line of nondestructive testing solutions at this year’s IMTS exposition in Chicago. During the show, The Modal Shop’s innovative Nondestructive Testing Drop Test Fixture (NDT-DTF) demonstrated resonant inspection quality testing on thousands of tiny compressed gas cartridges. Each cartridge was automatically checked to verify that an acceptable fill level had been reached during production. Visitors to the exhibit saw the NDT-DTF and bowl feeder automate the testing process from start to finish, making 100-percent quality inspection fast, simple, and reliable.

With testing speeds of one part per second, the NDT-DTF creates a quick and efficient inspection process. The system assesses quality by checking the acoustic frequency of each part tested. Acceptable frequency limits are set prior to inspection to establish pass/fail criteria, making testing completely objective. The bowl feeder uses vibratory force to organize and align metal component parts before dropping them on the impact point of the drop test fixture. Post impact, parts are automatically sorted into pass/fail containment bins via a stepper motor.
