Product News: Low-Energy Laser Measurement Sensors from Ophir-Spiricon

(Ophir-Spiricon: Logan, UT) --  Ophir-Spiricon, a provider of precision laser measurement equipment, recently announced the PD10-IR-pJ Photodiode Energy Sensors that measure very low energy, down to 30 picojoules (pJ). Part of the PD10 family of high sensitivity silicon laser sensors, the new devices extend the low measurement capability to the NIR range, covering from 800 nm to 1,800 nm.

The PD10-IR-pJ energy sensors are designed for very low energy commercial and military applications, such as telecommunications and remote sensing. The PD10-IR-pJ is able to measure very low energies, either single shot or repetitive, up to 10 kHz. The device uses a five mm aperture germanium photodiode to measure pulse energies in the 200 pJ to 20 nanojoules (nJ) range, with the lowest possible energy measurement as small as 30 pJ.

“Measuring at the picojoule level has been difficult until now,” says Ephraim Greenfield, vice president of engineering Ophir Optronics Laser Measurement Group. “The PD10-IR-pJ brings infrared laser measurement down to significantly smaller, more sensitive levels, jumping from 200 nJ down to 30 pJ, a 10,000-time improvement.”
