Published: Wednesday, October 24, 2012 - 10:22 (Carl Zeiss: Maple Grove, MN) -- Carl Zeiss has announced a new entrustment agreement to support Dunwoody College of Technology, located in Minneapolis, Minnesota, with two Zeiss coordinate measuring machines (CMMs) and CALYPSO metrology software. Two of Dunwoody’s programs, Engineering Drafting and Design, and Machine Tool Technology, are using these CMMs, designed for measurement in the workshop and production, to improve the students’ manufacturing and quality inspection skills by using the latest measurement technology.
“It’s great to see students gaining competitive skills in the discipline of metrology from a local technical college with a long-standing history in education,” says Chris Grow, the vice president of marketing at Carl Zeiss Industrial Metrology LLC in North America. Dunwoody’s robotics and manufacturing technology department offers a variety of associate and bachelor programs, including some certificate options that provide students with hands-on training on a diverse range of advanced manufacturing tools. Dunwoody’s Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerances course applies quality inspection principles using the Zeiss CMMs. Part inspections are also performed with the CMMs as part of the CNC lathe, mill, and mold making lab, verifying the various machining processes. Approximately 200 students pass through these two courses, offered in both day and evening tracks, each semester. “Our CMMs were out of date and limited,” says E.J. Daigle, the dean of robotics and manufacturing technology at Dunwoody College of Technology. “By partnering with Carl Zeiss we were able to bring in the latest in CMM technology and software launching our metrology lab into the 21st century.” Carl Zeiss Industrial Metrology’s North American headquarters and manufacturing facility is located in Maple Grove, Minnesota. This facility also supports and services coordinate measuring machines, CT X-ray systems, form and surface systems, and metrology software. Quality Digest does not charge readers for its content.
