Let’s have a closer look. Demo: Starrett’s L1 Force Measurement System plus Q&A with Eric Perkins We kicked off the show with an in-depth look at this new force measurement system from the L.S. Starrett Co., and then Starrett application engineer Eric Perkins took your questions about it live. Interview: Gordon Styles of Star Rapid Gordon Styles is the founder and president of Star Rapid, a China-based prototyping, tooling, and 3D metal printing company. In this interview, Styles shared his insights about the pros and cons of automation, the differences between North American and Asian manufacturers, the business realities of trade policy, and more. Demo: FARO QuantumS ScanArm plus Q&A with Rafael Hasbun This demonstration of the newest articulated arm from FARO Technologies was presented by application engineers Rafael Hasbun and Mike Koski; Hasbun then joined us at our anchor desk to answer questions. Interview: Robert Green of Transfer Flow Transfer Flow is a leader in aftermarket fuel tank systems; they also happen to be a local manufacturer just up the street from the Quality Digest studio. In this segment, Transfer Flow director of sales and marketing Robert Green joined us live via Skype to show off their Manufacturing Day activities. Demo: Starrett Kinemetric’s Flip-HVR 100 Video Measurement System plus Q&A with Greg Maisch Another brand-new technology, this system from Starrett’s Kinemetric Engineering division was presented by application engineer Greg Maisch, who then sat in live to do some Q&A. Interview: Carroll Thomas of the MEP The Hollings Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) is a co-producer of Manufacturing Day. In this live Skype interview, Carroll Thomas, director of the MEP program, gave us some insights into the development of the MEP and Manufacturing Day, the importance of STEM education, and more. Roundtable wrap-up We closed the show with an extended roundtable session in which Rafael Hasbun of FARO and Greg Maisch of Starrett returned to our anchor desk to take some final questions and look at big-picture issues including automation and machine intelligence, and the future of the test and measurement profession.
