For more than 50 years, the linear variable differential transformer (LVDT) position sensor has been a reliable tool for linear position feedback for laboratory, industrial, military, and aerospace applications. These sensors can provide linear displacement measurements ranging from microinches up to 2 feet with high accuracy while operating over a reasonably wide range of temperatures.

However, although the output stability of LVDT position sensors is suitable for many applications, it’s not completely immune to temperature variation. Temperature effects can be significant in certain specific applications such as aircraft, subsea, and turbomachinery. That’s why it is important to know the effects that temperature has on LVDT sensors.
