The Partnership for Prescription Assistance, a national program sponsored by pharmaceutical research companies, recently commemorated its first anniversary by launching the first "Patient Assistance Day" and by enhancing its services. The PPA provided free and reduced-cost prescription medications to more than two million uninsured and underinsured American patients, and millions more can benefit from the program. To boost enrollment, the PPA is hosting educational activities across the country.
The organization’s newest feature connects patients with free clinics in their communities. During its first year of operation, the PPA learned that access to physicians was often the greatest obstacle to completing applications for prescription-assistance programs.
“The PPA is an enormous success,” says Billy Tauzin, president and CEO of the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America. “However, we realize that millions more need assistance. That is why we are doing everything we can to improve the PPA so we can continue to identify and assist patients in need.”
