Five pharmaceutical facilities from all over the world were recently named finalists for the second-annual Facility of the Year competition. AstraZeneca, Baxter BioPharma Solutions, Daiichi Asubio Pharma Co., Janssen Pharmaceutica and Wyeth Pharmaceuticals are the finalists in the competition, which is sponsored by ISPE, INTERPHEX and Pharmaceutical Processing magazine. A sixth company, Biolex Therapeutics, was selected for special merit recognition for its Pittsboro Phase II facility expansion project.
The competition recognizes technological innovation and excellence in the pharmaceutical industry. AstraZeneca was chosen for its Large Scale Laboratory project; Baxter BioPharma Solutions was selected for its Phase IV Vial and Syringe Filling project; Daiichi Asubio Pharma Co. was selected for its development of innovative ethical drugs in the biotechnology field at its New Bio Plant; Janssen Pharmaceutica was nominated for its Small Volume Area Facility in Geel, Belgium; and Wyeth Pharmaceuticals was recognized for its Wyeth BioPharma Campus in Ireland.
