High Precision Flexible Gear Measurement with Leitz CMMs

Standard CMMs, when properly equipped, are the ideal flexible tool for measuring gears. They combine the flexibility of a general purpose measuring system, with specialized probing and software that allows them to be fully functional gear measuring centers that do not require a rotary table, which makes the system both more flexible, less expensive overall, and more accurate. Integration of a laser point probe with an industrial robot, using the Leica T-MAC Tracker-Machine wireless control sensor and a Leica Laser Tracker. The T-Mac can be mounted on moving robots, machines, or parts whose position(s) need to be monitored in 6DoF (Degrees of Freedom) space. This innovative measurement device was developed in response to the need for automation of tracking tasks where it is difficult, impossible or undesirable to have a human being holding a Leica T-product device like the T-Probe or T-Scan.

The T-Mac can be mounted on moving robots, machines, or parts whose positions need to be monitored in 6DoF (degrees of freedom) space. In this case, the 3-D alignment of one part to another is accomplished with the robot, with the T-Mac/Tracker combination providing real-time positional feedback and robot guidance.
