COMMENT POLICY

Comment Levels

As with all media sites that allow comments, Quality Digest has seen an increase in spammers and trolls. For years, in an attempt to control this, we only allowed logged-in users to post comments. This alleviated the problem... a bit. But more and more spammers and trolls have created fake accounts to leave comments, which then have to be deleted after the fact. At the same time we understand that people don't always want to log into a web site to leave comments. Sometimes you are in a hurry, or sometimes you just don't feel comfortable doing so.

Therefore, we have made some changes to expand the usefulness of our comments section and at the same time make it more robust against spammers and trolls. We have updated the comments section to allow anonymous comments, however, these are moderated and not immediately posted. They are reviewed for content and then posted if the content passes our comment rules-of-conduct. This allows our readers to leave comments, albeit delayed, without logging in.

Beginning in January 2018, here are the comment levels.

Logged-in users (unmoderated): Your comments are posted immediately, as before.
Anonymous users (moderated): Your comments will be reviewed to make sure they fall within our comment guidelines. If they do, they will be posted within one business day.
Abusers (moderated): If a logged-in user violates our comment rules-of-conduct, their post will be deleted and they will get an email warning from the moderator. They may also be moved to the moderated list, same as anonymous users. They may be moved from the moderated list back to the unmoderated list if further comments fall within our guidelines.

Comment rules-of-conduct

Comments must not contain profanity, inflammatory remarks, personal attacks, or demonstrably false assertions. Such comments will be removed entirely or redacted. Off-topic remarks may, at the discretion of the moderator, also be removed.

Links to other sites are allowed as long as they are relevant to the topic. Relevancy is judged by the moderator.

If Quality Digest believes you have broken these rules we may do any or all of the following: remove your comment, block your login privileges, block your IP.

Obvious spammers and trolls are permanently IP-blocked from the site.

In all cases, whether our rules of conduct are broken or not, Quality Digest is under no obligation to keep comments you submit. They may have sections redacted if those sections break our rules of conduct or be taken down completely at any time and for any reason.

Quality Digest doesn’t endorse, maintain, or bear any responsibility for any products or websites linked to from the comments section. So using products or connecting through links is done at your own risk.

The content or opinions expressed in comments are not investigated or vetted by Quality Digest, and Quality Digest disclaims any warranty, expressed or implied, with respect to the content of products or links mentioned in the comments section.
