The American National Standards Institute recently awarded 2004 Leadership and Service Awards to six executives.
The winners were recognized for their significant contributions to national and international standardization activities and commitment to the standards community. The winners are:
- Frank K. Kitzantides: recipient of the Astin-Polk International Standards Medal for his service in promoting trade and understanding among nations. Kitzantides has worked in the engineering standardization field for more than 30 years.
- Richard Green: recipient of the Howard Coonley Medal in recognition of his support for the national economy through the promotion of voluntary standardization. Green is president of CableLabs Inc.
- Richard D. Gast: recipient of the Finegan Standards Medal for his leadership in the development and application of international standards. Gast has been active in the standards development community for 31 years.
- Richard L. Pescatore: recipient of the Edward Lohse Information Technology Medal for his contributions to information technology standardization efforts. Pescatore is the external standards manager at Hewlett-Packard Co.
- Frank M. Coda: posthumous recipient of the George S. Wham Leadership Medal in honor of his long-term direction and support of the ANSI Federation. Coda was executive vice president of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers.
- Paul Hoversten: recipient of the President’s Award for Journalism for his work in publicizing the role of standardization. Hoversten is the editor of Homeland Security & Defense.
ANSI also recognized Susan Davies and Robert N. Tracci with Chairman’s Awards for their efforts persuading Congress to pass the Standards Developing Organizations Advancement Act of 2004. Davies is the senior minority counsel and Tracci is the majority counsel to the Senate.
In addition, ANSI awarded Meritorious Service Awards to nine people: Dan Bart, Colin B. Church, Louis Costrell, Casey C. Grant, William E. Kelly, Ileana Martinez, Paul Moliski, James T. Pauley and Mary H. Saunders.
