(Qualitest USA: Fort Lauderdale, FL) -- Qualitest introduces the new G2/130 Gas Transmission Rate Tester for measuring the gas permeability rate of hollow packaging containers. The gas used in a test may be air, oxygen, nitrogen, or carbon dioxide, among others. The hollow packaging containers tested include beverage bottles for soda pop, fruit juices, and tea; cans for edible oils, and packaging containers for dairy products, daily-use chemicals, and metals. The hollow-container gas-transmission rate is the measurement of the number of gas molecules that permeate from the container wall to the interior in unit time.

The fundamental testing method used in gas-transmission rate testing is the Manometric Method, which is used in the G2/130 tester instrument. Its three testing chambers improve the testing efficiency of its two testing modes—proportional and nonproportional—which enables the tester to meet different testing needs of different material. All test results are documented and can also be displayed; the easy-to-use software provides graphs, tables, and numerical listings. The tester is capable of testing the packages over a wide range, from 0.0001 to 1,800 ml/pkg day with a resolution of 0.1 Pa.
