ANSI Wants to Accredit Crane Operator Certification Programs in California

(ANSI: New York) -- In the state of California, crane operator certification bodies are required to be accredited by a California Division of Occupational Health and Safety (Cal/OSHA)-approved accreditation body. The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Personnel Certification Accreditation Program, which has been in operation for five years, is petitioning the Cal/OSHA Standards Board to be recognized as one of these accreditation bodies.

Dr. Roy Swift, the program director for ANSI’s personnel certifier accreditation program, spoke recently at the public portion of the Cal/OSHA Standards Board meeting, held in Cosa Mesa, California. He presented ANSI’s testimony for gaining approval as an accreditor of crane operator certification entities.

“In its first five years, ANSI’s accreditation program has already accredited 23 personnel certification bodies and has over 35 in the process of being accredited,” Swift says. “The phenomenal growth in demand is driven by ANSI’s instant name recognition, the quality of our accreditation programs, and the growing demand for accreditation of third party certifiers across the country.”

Swift spoke on the unique benefits of the Institute’s accreditation process, highlighting the unique continual assessment component that is a distinguishing characteristic between ANSI and other accreditation programs.

In 2007, ANSI received recognition to act as an accreditor of programs that offer certification for investment advisers and broker-dealers in the state of Massachusetts. These certification programs, which are mandatory for financial advisors and dealers who tailor their services to elderly Americans, protect senior investors from misleading titles and unethical business practices.
