No more $%#&^ p@ssw0rds!, context of the organization, corporate welfare

Published: Monday, February 6, 2017 - 12:26

The first QDL episode of February was filled to the brim with timely news items, thought-provoking articles, and a great interview with Pam Bethune of DEKRA, who chatted with us about the meaning of “context of the organization” within ISO 9001:2015.

In case you missed it, on the show we took a close look at the following stories:

“Ideas Whose Time Has Come (and Gone), v. 2017”

In this news item, Dirk considers NIST’s list of what’s in and what’s out this year in the high-tech world of test and measurement.

“Deloitte Study Finds That Manufacturing USA Spurs R&D Innovation”

Manufacturing USA is an initiative, partially funded by the federal government, to support innovation in manufacturing. In this news item, I report on Deloitte’s recent study looking at the program’s achievements.

“ISO 9001:2015—Establishing the Context of the Organization”

Here Dirk interviewed Pam Bethune, regional competence center manager (automotive) for DEKRA Certification, about the new language involving an organization’s context found in ISO 9001:2015. Be sure to register for the webinar on this topic, too.

What is the nature of truth, and how do perceptions, biases, and plain human nature play into our decision-making processes? In this segment I examine these and other truths about truth.

“Off-Script: What Should U.S. Taxpayers Support?”

In our weekly forum, it was my turn to put Dirk on the spot, which I did with a question about whethergovernment funding should be used to support private companies through programs like the Manufacturing Extension Partnership (which is, incidentally, rumored to be under threat for a funding cut in the 2018 federal budget).

Tune in this coming Friday, Feb. 10, 2017, for our next episode of Quality Digest Live. You can watch us either on our home page or our dedicated player page. See you there!
