Cognex Announces High-Performance Optical Character Verification System

Published: Tuesday, May 24, 2005 - 22:00

Cognex Corp. recently released ProofRead, an optical character verification (OCV) system that ensures pharmaceutical label information is printed correctly. With ProofRead, manufacturers can ensure the right data, lot or product code is printed, the right labels placed on the right products, and the right product placed into the right carton or box. It includes OCVMax, which allows characters to be verified even when printed on curved or flexible surfaces, or distorted during the printing or packaging process.

“Because of its ability to tolerate print distortion, ProofRead minimizes false rejects and eliminates costly operator intervention,” says Marilyn Matz, co-founder and senior vice president of PC vision products for Cognex. “And as a ready-to-use application, ProofRead is both easy to set up and operate.”

ProofRead comes equipped to read 2-D matrix codes, RSS and 1-D bar codes, providing a complete solution for package integrity and product traceability. A single ProofRead system can use up to four cameras to verify characters and read codes at multiple stations on a packaging line, reducing the overall cost per inspection. It’s available in three configurations.

Cognex Corp. designs, develops, manufactures and markets machine vision systems and machine vision sensors. It has shipped more than 225,000 vision systems since the company’s founding in 1981.
