7D Kinematic Metrology Acquires Nikon’s iGPS Dynamic Tracking Business

Transaction closed March 31, 2019

Published: Tuesday, April 23, 2019 - 21:06

(Nikon Metrology: Leuven, Belgium) -- Nikon Metrology recently announced that the Canadian company 7D Kinematic Metrology Inc. has acquired its iGPS dynamic tracking business. Key takeaways of this transaction are as follows:
• Nikon Metrology will focus on optical and X-ray inspection and noncontact metrology
• 7D Kinematic Metrology intends to grow the iGPS business in aerospace, special-vehicle inspections, and other industries
• Closing of the transaction occurred on March 31, 2019

iGPS is a modular, large-scale, high-accuracy dynamic tracking solution that transforms large facilities into accurate, tracking-enabled workspaces. Within the facility, the movement of an unlimited number of devices, such as large assembly parts, tools, and automated guided vehicles (AGVs) equipped with iGPS sensors, can be tracked concurrently. As such, iGPS technology enables advanced manufacturing and assembly of large-scale products such as aircraft or aerospace components. The iGPS technology is also used during the development process of automotive active safety and autonomous driving systems.

7D Kinematic Metrology is part of Amrikart Ultraprecision group. Specializing in real-time assisted assembly solutions, 7D Kinematic Metrology is a world leader in the implementation of the revolutionary iGPS system. 7D Kinematic Metrology has extensive expertise in dimensional measurement, and is a strategic partner for manufacturers of large-scale products requiring high-precision measurements.

“This business transfer is in line with the Nikon Corp. strategic review to focus on optical and X-ray inspection and nonontact metrology,” says Tadashi Nakayama, corporate vice president of Nikon.

“Thanks to our long-term experience in aerospace manufacturing and the close cooperation with Nikon Metrology integrating their dynamic tracking iGPS solutions in aerospace assembly projects, 7D Kinematic Metrology will be well positioned to expand the iGPS business line,” states Nathalie Tremblay, CEO and owner of 7D Kinematic Metrology.

Both companies will work closely together to ensure a smooth transition with suppliers, customers, and resellers.

Further details of the agreement were not disclosed.
