(Nikon Metrology: Leuven, Belgium) -- Nikon Metrology recently announced that the Canadian company 7D Kinematic Metrology Inc. has acquired its iGPS dynamic tracking business. Key takeaways of this transaction are as follows:
• Nikon Metrology will focus on optical and X-ray inspection and noncontact metrology
• 7D Kinematic Metrology intends to grow the iGPS business in aerospace, special-vehicle inspections, and other industries
• Closing of the transaction occurred on March 31, 2019

iGPS is a modular, large-scale, high-accuracy dynamic tracking solution that transforms large facilities into accurate, tracking-enabled workspaces. Within the facility, the movement of an unlimited number of devices, such as large assembly parts, tools, and automated guided vehicles (AGVs) equipped with iGPS sensors, can be tracked concurrently. As such, iGPS technology enables advanced manufacturing and assembly of large-scale products such as aircraft or aerospace components. The iGPS technology is also used during the development process of automotive active safety and autonomous driving systems.
