The Baldrige-based Missouri Quality Award is designed to stimulate continuous improvement in the quality of products and services, customer satisfaction and global competitiveness. The categories  vary slightly from the Baldrige, as listed below. Missouri also has a recognition for teams in the Missouri Team Quality Award and at the individual level with the Governor's Quality Leadership Award.

 Categories: Profit and nonprofit manufacturing, service, education, health care and public-sector organizations: small (fewer than 100 employees), medium (100-499 employees) and large (500 or more employees).

The Edgerton Quality Awards recognize continuous process improvement and adaptation of technology in each category. Awards are presented at three levels: The Edgerton Award of Commitment, The  Edgerton Award of Progress and the Edgerton Award of Excellence.

The award uses the Baldrige criteria and recognizes organizations that embrace technological change as a method to achieve maximum productivity at the lowest cost; utilize continuous improvement  methods to provide efficient, safe and challenging work; stimulate business growth; upgrade public and private education to promote quality awareness; promote environmental awareness; and improve living and working  conditions. Awards may be presented for excellence in any of the seven Baldrige categories, and level awards recognize companies at different stages of their quality journey.

New Jersey

The New Jersey Governor's Award for Performance Excellence has three recognition approaches: Interest in Performance Excellence, an examiner-facilitated self-assessment; Involvement in Performance  Excellence, an internal organizational self-assessment; and Progress to Performance Excellence, a mini-application and examiner-assessed approach. Award levels include the Governor's Award for Performance Excellence at  the gold, silver and bronze levels for overall excellence.

Quality New Mexico applicants use the Baldrige criteria for self-assessment and award application at three levels: commitment, progress and performance excellence. The Governor's Award For Excellence represents the highest form of recognition for performance excellence and quality in New York State. The ESA Program registers organizations as Empire State  Gold or Empire State Silver after certifying their management systems' soundness and effectiveness against the management standards found in the program's criteria.

Categories: Private, education, health care, government sectors and nonprofit.

Schedule: The award cycle runs once a year and concludes in late spring; the ESA program runs in four cycles throughout the  year.

 

North Carolina

This recognition process uses the 19 items from the Malcolm Baldrige Performance Excellence Criteria and locally developed training materials. There are four steps at which organizations may apply.  The Involvement Step evaluates four items and is intended to be an introduction into the process. The Commitment Step evaluates seven items. The Advancement Step evaluates 13 items. The Leadership Step is for  organizations wanting a full assessment against all 19 items. All participants receive recognition at the level which best reflects their performance excellence maturity.

Categories: Small (up to 99  employees), medium (100-499 employees) and large (500 or more employees) organizations, including manufacturing, service (including nonprofit), educational and public sector.

This award recognizes teamwork and employee involvement activities in quality processes in manufacturing. Participating teams make presentations demonstrating their use of quality tools and  processes. Projects are evaluated against a set of criteria representing the standard elements of any quality process.

Categories: Manufacturing only. Two categories: small plant division (fewer than 500  employees) and large plant division (500 or more employees).

The Oklahoma Quality Award has no limit on awards given in a category. The award has three levels: commitment, achievement and excellence. To be eligible, an organization must have operated in  Oklahoma for three years, and its major business function must be verified in Oklahoma.

Categories: Three categories for organizations in manufacturing, service, health care, education and government.  Category 1: 1-50 employees; category 2: 51-250 employees; category 3: more than 250 employees.

The Trident Area Quality Award program seeks to promote, encourage and recognize team and organizational quality improvement efforts and provide public recognition for successful programs and  organizations. The program, which is based on the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, includes a team award portion as well as an organizational award portion. The team award program recognizes three specific  levels of achievement while the organizational program recognizes four specific levels.

 

South Dakota

These awards are presented every two years, with the next event to be held in 2000. Within the quality category, an award is given to the business  demonstrating exceptional performance in total quality management.
