Digital Ad Specifications

Important: Please Read First!

Providing your advertising material electronically? Please submit our Digital Ad Form prior to or in conjunction with your electronic material to help you submit your material successfully.

Note: Quality Digest production is Macintosh-based. We require all PC files to be Macintosh-compatible. If you are working on a PC platform, please refer to the Digital File Format section below.

Quality Digest is printed using standard four-color process printing. All PMS colors used must be converted to process (CMYK) color. Keep in mind that these colors are used for your guidance only. We do not match PMS colors. If your ad has critical color-matching requirements, a standard color match print is required. Color keys, transfer keys or chromalins will be accepted, but Quality Digest cannot guarantee the results obtained from them. Prints from inkjet printers are not acceptable for color guidance.

Digital File Formats

Important: Please Read First!

Quality Digest's production is Macintosh-based. We require all PC files to be Macintosh-compatible. Quality Digest CANNOT accept electronic ads in PageMaker, InDesign or Quark formats from a PC. An alternative is to submit files in a composite color/grayscale EPS or TIF format. PageMaker, InDesign and Quark allow you to Save Page as EPS. This method works well with Photoshop v4 through v6, allowing the PageMaker, Quark, InDesign EPS file to be opened in Photoshop and resaved as a TIF file. This eliminates the need to match fonts across platforms and reduces the possibility of text reflow or font substitution.

Quality Digest is printed using standard four-color process printing. All PMS colors used must be converted to process (CMYK) color. Please follow special instructions for each type of native file format Quality Digest accepts to avoid incurring additional charges. Please call our art director before submitting any file formats not listed.

If you are not sure how to follow these instructions, refer to the softwares user manual or the Web site: www.adobe.com or www.quark.com .

Adobe Photoshop 5.0 or later (Mac)
A Photoshop TIF is the preferred file format for your ad.

Files must be in CMYK mode for color or in grayscale for B&W ads.

Any fonts used in documents should be rendered, or flatten document to prevent font substitutions.

Please include hard copy of ad.

Files should be TIF, EPS or JPEG at 300 DPI or greater. If you are not sure how to follow these instructions, refer to the Photoshop user manual or the Adobe Web site: www.adobe.com .

Adobe Illustrator 7.0 or later (Mac)
All fonts must be converted to outlines and all colors used must be in CMYK process.

Please embed all linked files into document or include any linked images with file.

If you are not sure how to convert fonts or embed links, refer to the Illustrator user manual or the Adobe Web site: www.adobe.com .

We have discovered problems with embedding TIF files in Illustrator EPS files. It is preferable to save your ad as a TIF by rasterizing Illustrator EPS files with Photoshop.

Adobe PageMaker 6.0 or later (Mac)
All colors must be CMYK or grayscale (including linked files).

No RGB or PMS colors accepted

All fonts and linked images used must be submitted with file.

Please include hard copy of ad.

If you are not sure how to follow these instructions, refer to the PageMaker user manual or the Adobe Web site: www.adobe.com.

Another method for saving PageMaker files is to Save Page as EPS. This is an option in Page Maker 6.5 and later versions. This method works well with Photoshop 5.0, allowing the PageMaker EPS file to be opened in Photoshop and resaved as a TIF file. This eliminates the need to match fonts across platforms and reduces the possibility of text reflow or font substitution.

Quark XPress 4.0 or later (Mac)
All colors must be CMYK or grayscale (including linked files).

No RGB or PMS colors accepted

All fonts and linked images used must be submitted with file.

Please include hard copy of ad.

If you are not sure how to accomplish above instructions, refer to the QuarkXpress user manual or the Quark Web site: www.quark.com .

Another method for saving Quark files is to Save Page as EPS. This is an option in Quark 3.3 and later versions. This method works well with Photoshop 5.0 and later, allowing the Quark EPS file to be opened in Photoshop and resaved as a TIF file. This eliminates the need to match fonts across platforms and reduces the possibility of text reflow or font substitution.
