(Mahr Federal: Providence, RI) -- Mahr Federal Inc. has introduced a new version of its popular MMQ 200 Formtester Cylindricity Machine with an automated T7W probing system. The T7W is a ±360° motorized bidirectional probe intended to reduce operator involvement and improve measurement capability. Complete with Mahr’s newest EasyForm v 3.0 software, the MMQ 200 is compact, fast, very easy to learn and operate, and is equally at home in the metrology lab or on the shop floor.

“Automated probe positioning means an operator can put a part on the machine, walk away, and the whole measurement can be done automatically,” says Pat Nugent, vice president for metrology systems at Mahr Federal. “Since manual probe rotation is subject to human error, a secondary benefit of automated probe positioning is greater accuracy of position, and hence, improved accuracy and repeatability for the whole measurement process.”
The intuitive user interface of the MMQ 200’s EasyForm 3 software guides users through measurement setup and operation. Multifeature measurement routines can be easily set up and saved, and measurement operations are fast and virtually automatic. Up to 32 measuring routines can be saved for automatic operation via function keys. For example, a roundness measurement can be taken with just two steps.
Measurement results are immediately displayed on the screen, including 3-D representation with color or grid lines providing an interactive graphic preview. Results can be printed, saved in file formats such as pdf, or exported for analysis in other software packages.
This ease of operation makes the MMQ 200 ideal for use by machine operators in production areas where timely measurements can minimize scrap, save time, and reduce production costs. Optimized for the measure of cylindricity through rotational table axis and vertical axis integration, the MMQ 200 can also perform a full range of ISO and ASME form checks, including: roundness, straightness, flatness (from a polar trace), parallelism, concentricity, coaxiality, run-out, total run-out, taper, perpendicularity, angularity, and angle sector (roundness, flatness, run-out).
In addition, the MMQ 200 requires no outside air supply. The high-precision mechanical bearings used in the rotary table are more accurate than most air bearings and up to 70 times stiffer, making the system less susceptible to external forces such as vibration, which is critical for operation in real-world production environments.
