(Food Safety and Security Summit: Washington, D.C.) From farm gate to dinner plate, the 10th annual Food Safety and Security Summit, held March 17–19, 2008, at the Washington, D.C., Convention Center, is the largest and most established food safety and security expo and conference in North America.The summit features intensive educational seminars conducted by industry experts, workshops, social and networking events, and a large exhibit hall featuring the industry’s leading problem-solving vendors.
Rick Frazier, who leads the Coca-Cola Co’s technical stewardship, will kick off the event with a keynote address Tuesday, March 18, 2008. Later in the afternoon, a special address on priority food safety issues in 2008 will be given by Richard E. Rivera, chairman of the board of the National Restaurant Association.
On Wednesday, March 19, 2008, Dr. David Acheson, assistant commissioner for Food Protection, will present “The FDA: Crisis and Recovery.” As assistant commissioner, Dr. Acheson provides advice and counsel on strategic and substantive food safety and food defense matters.
