The American National Standards Institute will host an upcoming forum for standards developers in New York City. Open Forum for Standards Developers will be held June 20–21 and will continue a dialogue initiated in March, when consortia representatives met with members of the voluntary standards community to discuss the development of the United States Standards Strategy. Topics recommended for future discussion included mechanisms for minimizing redundancy, reducing time-to-market, intellectual property rights issues, legislative and regulatory activities, information sharing and access, best practices for standards development, and third-party recognition or credentialing programs.
Standards developers of all kinds—including consortia, other forums and accredited and nonaccredited developers—are invited to the June forum. The primary purpose of the event is information sharing and dialogue, and meeting organizers predict that the discussions may lead to the development of specific action plans for advancing certain topics.
“This Open Forum is a stepping stone for forging new relationships between consortia and other developers of voluntary consensus standards,” says S. Joe Bhatia, ANSI president and CEO.
