(Keene State College: Keene, NH) -- AMETEK Precitech has announced the shipment of a Nanoform X ultra-precision diamond turning lathe to Keene State College. The machine, which is used to make high-precision optical components, shipped to the Technology Design and Safety Center at Keene State College, where it will be used to teach students about ultra-precision manufacturing in sustainable product design and innovation classes.
“We are excited to install a Nanoform X at Keene State College to support their new curriculum in optics and super-precision manufacturing starting in the spring semester,” says Keith Kowalski, vice president and business unit manager of Precitech. “We are delighted to strengthen the local ultra-precision machining community by partnering to train the next generation right here in Keene, New Hampshire.”
“We are grateful for the efforts of Precitech in developing our partnership to bring this amazing technology to our students,” says Lisa Hix, Keene State College associate professor of sustainable product design and innovation. “This will help students prepare for a range of career opportunities as they learn about and experience the capabilities of ultra-precision machining used in advanced research fields, medical and automotive industries, and in communication and aerospace applications.”
Hix continues, “This technology is an important part of a new Optics and Precision Manufacturing Program at Keene State College, created in collaboration with industry partners to develop the talents needed in our workforce. Along with Precitech, many high-precision companies in the area that produce components and equipment will be able to grow and meet industry demand in part through the skilled workforce pipeline being developed by Keene State College.”
