Event: Free ASQ Webinar Explains ISO 9001:2008 Standard

Experts to discuss key changes in standard as transition deadline nears.

Published: Monday, March 8, 2010 - 15:38

(ASQ: Milwaukee) -- As time runs out for businesses currently registered to ISO 9001:2000 to make the transition and become registered to the ISO 9001:2008 quality management system, the American Society for Quality (ASQ) is offering a free webinar to help make the transition easier. “ISO 9001:2008 Explained” will be offered, live, at 1 p.m. CDT, Wednesday, April 21. Participants can register at www.asq.org/webinars/iso-9001-2008-explained.html.

ISO 9001 is used to increase confidence in products and services offered by certified organizations and provide the framework for organizations to evaluate their quality management systems. This standard applies to any size organization—small, medium, or large—and all types of organizations—private or public sector. The 2008 version replaces the year 2000 version currently implemented in 170 countries worldwide. All businesses registered to the ISO 9001:2000 standard must recertify to the ISO 9001:2008 version by Nov. 14, 2010. Existing certifications to ISO 9001:2000 will be invalid after Nov. 14, 2010.

Topics to be discussed in the ASQ webinar include:
• Overview of the eight quality management principles
• The ISO 9001 approach
• Key changes between the 2000 and 2008 versions
• An opportunity for live questions and answers

Presenting the webinar are Charles A. Cianfrani and Jack West, both experts on the topic and authors of the book ISO 9001:2008 Explained, Third Edition (ASQ Quality Press, 2009) also coauthored by Joseph J. Tsiakals.

Charles A. Cianfrani is a U.S. expert representative to ISO/TC 176/SC2/WG 18, the working group that wrote ISO 9001:2008. He is vice president and managing director of the Quality Consulting Group at ResCare Inc., and has led implementation of ISO 9001-compliant processes on six continents. He is an ASQ Fellow.

John E. (Jack) West is immediate past chair of the U.S. Technical Advisory Group for ISO/TC 176 and a delegate for the United States to the ISO committee responsible for the ISO 9000 family of quality management standards. He is a business adviser who helps organizations improve their growth and profitability. West has more than 30 years of experience in various industries worldwide.
