(CSA: Toronto) -- CSA Standards, a leading standards-based solutions organization, has launched the CSA Registered Carbon Neutral Program. The program provides organizations and building owners with a credible, transparent process by which to declare their carbon neutrality and receive recognition in the program registry, as well as authorized use of the new program label.

“The authorized use of the CSA Registered Carbon Neutral Label signifies that the organization has voluntarily determined its carbon footprint and offset GHG emissions,” says Bonnie Rose, president of CSA Standards. “CSA Registered Carbon Neutral Program recognition will help provide additional credibility and confidence to an organization’s environmental marketing claims.”
Carbon neutrality is the achievement of zero net greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from a specified organization or building. This is achieved by measuring GHG emissions and then (for all emissions identified) offsetting them through the retirement of an equivalent amount of qualifying verified emissions reductions or removals. Carbon neutral is not the same as having zero emissions.
The CSA Registered Carbon Neutral Label applies to a single calendar year. Under the program, the applicant has an option to obtain the following labels, as applicable:
• CSA Registered Carbon Neutral Organization
• CSA Registered Carbon Neutral Building
• Tenants of a CSA Registered Carbon Neutral Building
The CSA Registered Carbon Neutral Program is based on the ISO 14064 GHG quantification, reporting, and verification standards from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).
CSA has provided leadership to the development of international environmental and sustainability standards for more than 25 years. Through its central role in the development of the ISO 14064 GHG standards to the development of numerous climate change services, CSA has established international presence and expertise in GHG management. The CSA Registered Carbon Neutral Program builds on and leverages this expertise to assist building owners and organizations in demonstrating and communicating their commitment to environmental leadership to their customers and stakeholders.
CSA is now accepting entrants for the CSA Registered Carbon Neutral Program and the related registry, which began in August. To learn more, contact carbon-neutral@csa.ca or visit csa.ca/carbon-neutral.
