The Coordinate Metrology Society (CMS) sends its support to our members and vendors who were affected by super storm Sandy. Families and businesses will need aid and support during the coming months to put their lives back together. You can help by donating money to the American Red Cross at www.redcross.org. If you’re willing to do more, you can find ways to help with the relief effort by contacting your local Red Cross chapter. The Red Cross mobilizes resources and relief workers to respond to Sandy’s impact by providing essential aid such as shelter, meals, basic healthcare, emotional support, and other emergency services.

Turning toward 2013, the CMS will soon announce a call for papers for the 2013 Coordinate Metrology Systems Conference (CMSC) in San Diego. Our organization welcomes abstracts for presentations and technical papers submitted by metrology professionals from leading manufacturers, science laboratories, and academia. Suggested topics include industry best practices, scientific research and developments, and successful applications of 3D coordinate measurement systems. Abstract submissions are peer-reviewed by the CMS and considered for presentation at the CMSC. The CMS Executive Committee reviews all technical papers presented at the CMSC and selects the conference’s best papers for publication in The Journal of the CMSC.
We will also soon release the results of our 2012 Measurement Study, which focused on the importance of practical testing. Data collection was coordinated by the United Kingdom’s National Physical Laboratory, assisted by members of the CMS Certification Committee and sponsored by The Metrologic Group. During the past two years, more than 400 conference attendees have participated in the data collection activity. Study results have been analyzed by the CMS Certification Committee and used to support the first industry-recognized, level-one personnel certification in portable 3D metrology.
Be sure to read our top story in this edition of CMSC World, “CMS Certification Program Takes a Giant Step,” by Belinda Jones, for the details of our progress on certification program. This program will support a new generation of qualified metrologists, raise the bar on their work product, and keep the field of metrology healthy and strong.
Enjoy the rest of 2012, and we will catch up in the new year.

Money Donation
I'm personally strongly AGAINST any kind of Individuals' money donation, to support the Injured, the Poor, the Diseased: I don't see why the Poor should be helped by the Poor, when there all too many rich Organizations that just get pleasure of themselves, speak big words but make the Poor even poorer. It's high time that words be consistently linked to FACTS: that's Quality, too. Thank you.
