Survey Seeks Input for 3-D Metrology Certification Program

The Coordinate Metrology Society is currently working to establish a 3-D Coordinate Metrology Certification Program.

(CMS: Issaquah, WA) -- The Coordinate Metrology Society (CMS) announced today it is conducting an online industry survey for experts and novices working in the field of metrology. The CMS ( www.cmsc.org ) is currently working to establish a 3-D Coordinate Metrology Certification Program, and seeks feedback on the needs and requirements from the industries it serves. The society urges metrologists, quality managers, quality control specialists, manufacturers, engineers, scientists, and others involved in high precision measurement and inspection to participate in the five-minute online survey at: www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=AzZkjEZ6GIGW2_2fypdOLKOg_3d_3d3D .

The CMS will convene this summer at its 25th Annual Coordinate Metrology Systems Conference (CMSC) from July 20-24, at the Louisville Marriott Downtown in Louisville, Kentucky. At this time, the Certification Committee will present a two hour workshop at the conference, which will include the results of the survey. The body of knowledge gained in the past year will serve as the foundation for future CMS certification efforts.

The organization seeks to ensure a strong future for the metrology industry by expanding the available skill base for performing large volume, high-tolerance 3-D measurement. There is a marked increase in the need for training and certification in our industry. Last year, the CMS Certification Committee was formed, and its members have worked on a proposal for the development of a centralized industrial metrologist certification program. The committee has a diverse makeup with participants from metrology equipment and software manufacturers, service providers, academia, standards organizations, and industrial users.

CMSC

Founded in 1984, the Coordinate Metrology Society (CMS)—presenter of the Coordinate Metrology Systems Conference (CMSC)—is a large society of users, service providers, and OEM manufacturers of close tolerance, industrial coordinate measurement systems, software and peripherals. These metrology systems include traditional CMMs, electronic theodolites, laser projection systems, laser trackers, laser radar, photogrammetry and videogrammetry systems, scanning devices, and articulating arms. The society assembles at the CMSC to learn about advancements in use or development of any measurement system or software that produce, utilize, and analyze 3-D coordinate data.
