(Verisurf: Anaheim, CA) -- Verisurf Software Inc. has entered into an exclusive agreement with Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX). Under the agreement, Verisurf will become SpaceX’s software standard for real-time information regarding surface variance on composite tooling, to perform crucial final acceptance inspection, and to create surface deviation reports for the Falcon 1 and Falcon 9 launch vehicles, as well as the Dragon spacecraft programs.
SpaceX is developing a family of launch vehicles and spacecraft intended to increase the reliability and reduce the cost of both manned and unmanned space transportation, ultimately by a factor of 10. With the Falcon 1 and Falcon 9 vehicles, SpaceX offers highly reliable, cost-efficient launch capabilities for spacecraft insertion into any orbital altitude and inclination. Starting in 2010, SpaceX’s Dragon spacecraft will provide Earth-to-LEO transport of pressurized and unpressurized cargo, including resupply to the International Space Station.
Hawthorne, California-based SpaceX cited Verisurf’s ease of use, proven industry experience, and leadership in expanding the use of 3-D CAD data into complex aerospace assembly and inspection processes as the reasons for the exclusive agreement.
“Verisurf’s CAD connectivity, broad 3-D device support, and powerful measurement functionality are a great compliment to our current programs,” says Chris Thompson, SpaceX vice president of manufacturing. “These benefits, coupled with its ease of use and reputation as a standard in the aerospace industry, make Verisurf a great choice for SpaceX.”
Verisurf software is a powerful, efficient, and competitively priced product built upon model-based definition (MBD) principles. It is rapidly changing inspection and measurement technology by helping to move from a hand-measurement, paper-drawing-based process to a paperless, “green,” 3-D model-based inspection process.
“Verisurf is proud to be the corporate standard for SpaceX, a company with the highest level of innovation and quality in commercial space flight," says Ernie Husted, president and CEO of Verisurf Software Inc. "We will do whatever is necessary to support SpaceX as they strive to develop affordable access to space.”
Founded in 2002, SpaceX is a private company owned by management and employees, with minority investments from Founders Fund and Draper Fisher Jurvetson. The SpaceX team now numbers nearly 800. For more information, please visit the company’s web site at www.spacex.com.
