Valley Baptist Health System Awarded Three Global Six Sigma Awards; Cummins’ Tim Solso Awarded Six Sigma CEO of the Year

Tim Solso, Six Sigma CEO of the Year

(Global Six Sigma Summit: Las Vegas, Nevada) -- Texas-based Valley Baptist Health System collected three accolades—the highest number ever collected—at the Global Six Sigma Summit & Industry Awards.

As well as receiving the award for Best Achievement of Six Sigma in Health Care the organization received the Platinum Award for the overall most outstanding achievement through Six Sigma for using the quality methodologies to achieve a 50-percent reduction in patient death rate from heart failure, 77-percent reduction in complications, and 12-percent reduction in readmission rates.

Valley Baptist’s Dr. Tomas A. Gonzalez received the Six Sigma Vice President of the Year honor for his leadership in methodically building the Six Sigma program.

Held at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino, awards were presented after extensive reviews by an independent, international panel of 21 leaders from business, industry, and government. The honors recognize significant accomplishments by the recipients, who used Six Sigma disciplines in creative and innovative ways to achieve greater efficiencies, improve customer satisfaction, develop new products and services, and become more competitive.

Tim Solso, Chairman and CEO of Cummins Inc., received the top honor as Six Sigma CEO of the Year for his leadership in leveraging the methodologies that have helped to nearly double the company’s revenues from $6.5 billion to $11.4 billion in seven years.

Speaking at the awards presentation, Solso said: “Six Sigma is one of the best things we have ever done. Last year we saved $340 million and completed 2,200 projects. Since the inception of the program in September 1999, we’ve saved or avoided spending a total of $1.4 billion, completed 7,500 projects and provided 6,000 belts with almost a million hours of training.” Cummins’ success at incorporating Six Sigma into its culture and every aspect of its business is the result of an unyielding commitment to the program by Tim Solso and the Cummins leadership team. 2006 was the best year in Cummins’ history, with record revenues of $11.4 billion, record profits and record cash flow.
