The DMIS is a language for the correct, complete, and unambiguous description of computer-executable dimensional measurement part programs and measurement results. The standard defines a neutral language for communication between information systems and dimensional measurement equipment (DME). DMIS is an execution language for measurement part programs and provides an exchange format for metrology data such as features, tolerances, and measurement results. DMIS conveys the product and equipment definitions along with the process and reporting information necessary to perform dimensional measurements that employ coordinate metrology.

The hands-on workshop is designed for CMM technicians, metrology specialists, and quality engineers who need to better understand measurement programming, and the role of standards in the interoperability and ever-changing world of dimensional metrology.

The Dimensional Measuring Interface Standard (DMIS) is one such standard that the consortium has the responsibility to develop, maintain, and support as well as to coordinate and harmonize with other related standards efforts.
