Konica Minolta Sensing Launches ColorScoutA3+ XY Table

For accurate measurements of color charts with FD-7 and FD-5 spectrodensitometers

(Konica Minolta: Ramsey, NJ) -- Konica Minolta Sensing Americas, a global leader in the industrial measurement of color, light, and 3D shape, has launched in the United States the ColorScoutA3+ XY Table for the digital imaging and graphic arts market.

The ColorScoutA3+ enables accurate, efficient measurements of color charts with Konica Minolta’s FD-7 and FD-5 spectrodensitometers. It enables automatic positioning of the instrument and automatic measurement, as well as the ability to average measurements without manual intervention. This provides higher repeatability and reduction in labor when compared to a semiautomatic or manual measurement.

Maximum measurable chart size of 320 mm × 460 mm (12.6 in. × 18.1 in.) improves measurement efficiency by allowing even large color charts to be measured in a single procedure without the need to cut up or tile the charts. Measurement of user-designed charts is also possible with ColorScoutA3+. ColorChart software, which is included, makes it easy to create a definition file for measuring user-designed charts.

Using the ColorScoutA3+ with the FD-7 or FD-5 makes it easier to measure colorimetric data from color charts under the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standard, ISO 13655:2009—“Graphic technology—Spectral measurement and colorimetric computation for graphic arts images.” According to the standard, Measurement Condition M1 colorimetric data can be used to create color profiles that more closely match visual evaluation in a D50 (ISO 3664:2009) environment. The ability to provide M1 and M0 data simultaneously is also supported.

The FD series was developed to be the first spectrodensitometer on the market to correspond to the ISO 13655 M1 standard for fluorescence and color measurement. It also includes the industries first automatic wavelength compensation feature, which automatically calibrates in the wavelength direction when white calibration is performed. Additionally, the FD-5 and FD-7 are the world’s lightest spectrodensitometers, weighing in at less than 1 lb with the target mask attached.

“The FD instrument makes it a flexible, versatile measurement table useful for R&D purposes, process control, quality control, and test chart measurement,” says Russell Doucette, business development manager at Konica Minolta Sensing Americas.

The FD series spectrodensitometers are available for purchase from select graphic arts distributors and online. Further product information can be found on Konica Minolta’s website.
