(University at Buffalo: Buffalo, NY) -- University at Buffalo’s Center for Industrial Effectiveness (TCIE) announces its next Black Belt training class to be presented at Ramada Hotel, in Amherst, New York, with dates slated for Sept. 20–24, Oct. 25–29, Nov. 29–Dec. 3, Jan. 10–14, 2011, and Feb. 7–11, 2011. The Black Belt certification training will be delivered by Thom Marra, TCIE’s Master Black Belt instructor.
Course deliverables include facilitation, training, and learning via workshops and breakout groups for attending industry professionals seeking Black Belt certification. The Black Belt certification process spans five months and consists of five training phases covering define, measure, analyze, improve, control (DMAIC) for a total of 200 instructional hours. Classroom-based instruction takes place one week per month, with approximately one month between each instructional week to allow candidates to return to their respective companies and apply the tools and methodologies learned. Typically there is time reserved each Friday to discuss Black Belt projects.
A certified Six Sigma Master Black Belt, Marra has more than 35 years’ experience working in quality and quality-related fields, including processing, health care, chemical, printing, mechanical, computer, machining, assembly, medical, aerospace, and automotive industries. His broad technical knowledge augments his strong leadership skills in team building, kaizen, Six Sigma, and innovation. During the course of his career, Marra has also taught and mentored hundreds of corporate clients in Six Sigma, lean, kaizen, team training, and basic quality systems. Marra is also instrumental in working with problem-solving teams—including the TCIE student certification program—addressing cycle times, scrap, formulations, production efficiencies, and inventories.
