Product News: Mahr Federal to Showcase Cylindricity and Surface Finish Machines

MMQ 200 Formtester With Automated Probe and MarSurf M 300 With Bluetooth Wireless Drive

(Mahr Federal: Providence, RI) -- Mahr Federal will be featuring two products at Quality Expo South, April 28–29, at the Charlotte Convention Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. On display at booth No. 341 will be a new version of the MMQ 200 Formtester Cylindricity Machine with automated T7W probing system and the new MarSurf M 300 .

The automated T7W probing system on the MMQ 200 Formtester is a ±360° motorized by-directional probe intended to reduce operator involvement and improve measurement capability. Complete with Mahr’s newest EasyForm v. 3.0 software, the MMQ 200 is compact, fast, very easy to learn and operate, and is equally at home in the metrology lab or on the shop floor.

The intuitive user interface of the MMQ 200’s EasyForm 3 software guides users through measurement setup and operation. Multifeature measurement routines can be easily set up and saved, and measurement operations are fast and virtually automatic. Up to 32 measuring routines can be saved for automatic operation via function keys. For example, a roundness measurement can be taken with just two steps.

Measurement results are immediately displayed on the screen, including 3-D representation with color or grid lines providing an interactive graphic preview. Results can be printed, saved in file formats such as PDF, or exported for analysis in other software packages.

The MarSurf M 300 is the first surface finish instrument to offer cable-free Bluetooth connection between drive and evaluation units. The MarSurf M 300 also incorporates a host of features to enhance the quality, versatility, and performance of the measurement process.

“Adding the wireless connection between drive and evaluation units has really opened up the potential for this type of hand-held instrument,” says Pat Nugent, vice president of metrology systems for Mahr Federal. “By separating the computing and display functions from the probe unit, we’ve been able to dramatically increase power and functionality while retaining the flexibility, economy, and ease of use which have made hand-held surface finish instruments so popular.”

The MarSurf M 300 offers a wide range of surface parameters conforming to standards from ISO, ASME, JIS, and other standards, and the innovative user interface ensures ease of use for operators in 15 languages. Measurement cut-off length selections between 0.08 mm (0.003 in.) and 2.5 mm (0.100 in.) can be selected by the user or automatically determined by the M 300 based on the actual surface profile being measured.

Also on display at the Mahr Federal booth will be additional surface and contour measurement systems, precision length measurement systems, air gauging, numerous electronic and mechanical gauges, and hand-held measurement tools.
