API Offers BIM to AEC&O Marketplace

BIM: knowing more about an existing structure helps streamline future renovations, facilitate asset management, and enhance workflow

(API: Rockville, MD) -- Automated Precision Inc. (API) is offering new service and technology to the architectural, engineering, construction, and owner community (AEC&O). The director of business development for API, Mitch Schefcik, will lead API’s efforts in converting existing facilities to building information modeling (BIM). “Much of the new construction being done is including BIM as part of the project,” says Schefcik. “API wants to broaden the services to include existing conditions documentation throughout the design and build process.” At the heart of BIM for existing conditions is the ability to know more about an existing structure to effectively streamline future renovations, facilitate asset management, and enhance workflow.

Schefcik joined API in April 2011 and has been putting the pieces in place to introduce this new capability. “API is a trusted expert in metrology and an innovator, as well,” he says. “They answer a customer’s problems and provide data that can be trusted.”

One of the key parts to successful BIMs is the accurate documentation of the facility. According to Schefcik, not only must the BIM professional obtain reliable data, he should also be proficient in integrating a variety of tools to prove the reliability of the model that he is building.

API is already working with clients to deliver BIM solutions. More of API’s core technology offerings will be added to enhance this service. For more information contact Thomas A.
