ISPE 2009 Tampa Conference

(ISPE: Tampa, Florida) – The International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering, a global not-for-profit association of 25,000 pharmaceutical science and manufacturing professionals, will hold the 2009 Tampa Conference at the Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay in Tampa, Florida, March 2–5.

Among the many two-day seminars, the conference will include:

  • Downstream Processing: Developments and Case Studies. Downstream processing is now a significant bottleneck in many large scale manufacturing facilities. This session will explore recent developments in downstream processing technologies that address increased throughput requirements and support functions such as column preparation and equipment cleaning and sanitization.
  • Assessing the Impact of Disposables: Achieving Operational Excellence, Minimizing Waste. By applying lean manufacturing concepts and applying cost modeling and process simulation, this session examines how to assess the effect of disposables for operational effectiveness. Based on end-user case studies, this seminar will examine effective procurement strategies for disposables, linking decision making to engineering, validation, and best practices for waste management of disposables.
  • Pharmaceutical HVAC Systems: Practical Approaches of Compliance and Sustainability. Sustainability considerations are requiring the pharmaceutical industry to challenge previously held paradigms as to the design and operation of facilities, particularly regarding heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. Reducing energy usage and improving other green design features while continuing to meet good manufacturing practices compliance requirements are high priorities within every company in the industry. This seminar reviews the current landscape of regulations, standards, and guidance regarding sustainability and shares best practices from leading pharmaceutical companies to reduce energy usage, including energy management programs and specific technical solutions. Case studies and ISPE HVAC Good Practice Guide (in development) concepts are used in a workshop format to demonstrate practical application of concepts.
