(ECM: Topsfield, MA) -- ECM Global Measurement Solutions has teamed with the United Kingdom’s National Physical Laboratory to produce and market a comprehensive preparatory course for the CMS Level-One Certification examination. The course is offered to professionals in the field of 3D portable metrology, and designed to assist and inform applicants of the topics covered by the exam. The Level-One Certification exam is a proctored, online assessment consisting of approximately 200 multiple-choice questions covering foundational theory and practice common to most portable 3D metrology devices. The Coordinate Metrology Society (CMS) is the issuing body for the certification, and has approved ECM as a certified proctor site.

The 2.5-day preparatory course will review the five key knowledge areas covered in the assessment:
1. Basic principles in interpreting engineering documents
2. Effects of equipment and environment on measurement
3. Factors in establishing a measurement and documentation plan
4. Measurement Operations
5. Data analysis and Ethics
A detailed course outline can be found here.
The course will be conducted by a metrology expert in a structured classroom setting with formal presentations, a workbook, and study materials. During question-and-answer sessions, discussion of the knowledge areas will be a primary focus to ensure understanding of each topic. The course can be taken at ECM or conducted on site at the customer’s location.
Applicants have the option to take the examination on the third day of the course. If a metrologist plans to take the exam at the end of the course, he or she will need to register and begin the Level-One Certification application process at least 10 weeks in advance of the course.
