› Process capability?

I was wondering when it is appropriate to call a process "in control"?
How does a process demonstrate control?
Is being withing the control limits simple acceptable as the result of 25 subgroups?
Thanks

While I have sent your question on to a contact who might know of books that offer advice and guidance on implementing an effective industrial engineering program within an organization, I am not familiar with that field or what resources are available. While a manufacturing organization should evaluate the effectiveness of its industrial engineering program or department and seek to make improvements as part of its QMS and continual improvement efforts, such a department is not required by ISO 9001:1994 or ISO 9001:2000. I hope others will be able to recommend books or provide other suggestions (an association or trade group that focuses on industrial engineering issues).

My most important recommendation for you is to find an experienced capable graduate IE to implement your new organization.

To do otherwise is to ask for many headaches, troubles, frustrations, reinventions of basic IE practices, etc. There will be enough of those even with an experienced person.

I don't know of any books specifically written for implementing a new IE organization, but Juran's 'Quality Control Handbook' would be an excellent reference to help (along with the IE Handbook). If you are located near a university with an IE program, you can get assistance from them.

My contact was not able to provide me with the name of a source of information on implementing an industrial engineering department or operations within an organization, however, he recommended that you look on the Internet for organizations that are involved in the industrial engineering field. There are many organizations like the Institute of Industrial Engineers and the National Association of Industrial Technology that maintain web sites and will either publish or otherwise promote books on the topic you seek information on or will list people at the associations who you could call to get further assistance from.
