› Buying into SPC?

I have come across a problem I am sure no one else has. I am the SPC Coordinator in an aerospace manufacturing plant. I have been trying to get support from executive management to fully implement our SPC program. I have shown the effectiveness of SPC, made data collection available at each workstation, shown an improvement in quality , saved them literally thousands of dollars in the reduction of scrap and rework, and increased workload capacity. Still, management will not fully support my initiative. Data collection by machine operators is required by our procedures (we are ISO, QS, and Boeing D1-9000 certified), but operators are not held accountable for not collecting data. If anyone has any suggestions, I am all ears! Welcome to Inside Quality Dr. Wheeler, and thank you, your books and Wheeler's Workshop articles have been a great help to me.

The Occupational Health & Safety Assessment Series (OHSAS) includes OHSAS 18001, which is a specifications standard for an occupational health & safety management system, and OHSAS 18002, which provides guidelines for implementing an OHSMS. They were developed by a "working party" of international standards bodies and major registrars. OHSAS 18001 and OHSAS 18002 are available from the British Standards Institution, and the best source for information on ordering them is from BSI's web site (www.bsi.org.uk).
