Our firm is in the initial process of selecting a registrar for the ISO 9001:2008 certification. Is there a recent survey available that provides a comparison of the various auditors? I found a survey but it appears to be from nearly a decade ago and I'd rather utilize a study that is more recent/relevant.

You're correct about the survey. But, there has been so many changes since. In terms for selecting a registrar, it's really a subjective matter. It depends on your company's objectives. My recommendation is that do not rely on a survey. Contact as many registrars as your time allows. Talk to them. Interview them. By talking to them, you know which registrar would work best for you and which one would pay attention to your needs instead of pushing the sales. And, please keep in mind that the cheapest does not necessarily the best and vice versa. Also, do not count out the small registrars. Go to ANAB website (www.anab.org) and there will be list of accredited registrars to date.
I'm working for a registrar myself, IAPMO R&T (www.isoiapmort.org). We always strive to provide our clients with the best service possible. But that does not mean that we are the perfect registrar for all clients, eventhough we'd like to. But, let's be realistic. Not every client has the same objectives when selecting a registrar. Like I said before, give them a call. You will soon find out which registrar gives you the best service and able to meet all your needs.
