This post is just to let the readers know that certification will soon be available in the U.S. for calibration technicians. The folks who come in and calibrate your meters and calipers will be able to be certified, just like your internal auditors and six sigma folks. ASQ is rolling out the CCT (Certified Calibration Technician) this summer. A simple suggestion to your calibration provider will help spread the word. For those who have found value in having certified professionals in other areas, the same concept of value from certified calibration personnel applies.
Jim, Sorry for the plug.....it seemed that the certification board was a good spot to put this information.....it is already on the Metrology board.

Hi Stuart,
Reducing Invoice Errors :
Look at the components which cause the errors :
Try to identify the root causes of the error. It could be issues with wrong PO #, or due to typo errors in keying the line items, or it could be the wrong address in the vendor database which is leading to wrong payment. You ideally have to identify the probable causes for this and attack it.
Let me know if you require more details on the way to improve the process.

Stuart,
In response to your inquiry:
"I am working to streamline the ‘invoicing’ process involved in a manufacturing based company, which involves everything from purchasing goods from a supplier to actually paying the supplier at some later date. I am aware that Six-Sigma can be (and is) used in Finance, however I have found little information on the use of Six-Sigma in terms of real application in the financial sector. I am very keen to learn more about Six-Sigma’s potential within this area, and more specifically, reducing invoicing errors and improving payment to suppliers. I was wondering if anyone has any experience in this area or could even guide me on where to find the right information/answers/people involved etc."
What you are addressing is the great advantage of Six Sigma workshop training. When you get involved with a good Six Sigma training program the instructor/coach can walk you through the roadmap to address your specific problem. Others in the workshop can see the application of Six Sigma to not only your situation but also build potential simularities to their work environment.
The strategy to address the specific problem you described above is very straight forward. Give me a call if you would like to discuss specifics.
