I find some auditors really push a requirement in certification (ISO/TS/AS) to control the environment for performing calibration/verification activities on inspection equipment. Some companies do not have a separate room and perform these activities in the shop environment where product is manufactured; and some shops are not controlled (i.e. temperature). How do we know when we're being pushed beyond the requirement to invest more dollars in controlling and monitoring the environment; or are many of us not interpreting the requirement correctly?
There are 2 difference scenarios - calibrate at 68 degrees, but used in a different temperature/climate; and calibrate at the same temperature the gage will be used in. Most do not use gages in a 68 degree environment. Can someone help clarify what the intrepretation should be - or is it really that difficult to determine?
